Tropical Fruit Trees & Other Delights

Many of our guests are surprised (and delighted) to learn just how many tropical fruits and other tropical plants can be found growing right here on our property at the Kauai Beach Inn. And when they find out that we will be serving many

Papaya Boat with Fruit

We use our own and other locally grown fruits whenever possible to make our delicious breakfasts each morning.

Fruits grown right on the Kauai Beach Inn property include papayas, bananas, mangoes, limes, coconut, avocado, and more!

We are fortunate to have a wide variety of fruit trees and other tropical plants growning at the Kauai Beach Inn. These are just some of the many fruits we grow on the property.

of these for breakfast, their excitement increases. There’s nothing quite like eating exotic tropical fruits picked fresh from the tree to give you a true taste of paradise. Even guests who “don’t like papayas” or other fruits are often shocked to discover that, well, “maybe I’ve never had a good one before….” Nothing could make us happier!

Another compliment we receive on a pretty regular basis is from guests telling us how good our coffee is. While we’d love to take all the credit, being just down the road from Hawaii’s largest coffee plantation probably doesn’t hurt. We proudly serve freshly-ground, locally-grown and roasted Kauai Coffee as part of our tropical breakfasts.

People who are used to buying commercial produce tend to forget how good it is when you eat it right where it was picked. We’d like to help you rediscover the joy of “tree to table” dining.

Papaya tree with papaya growing on trunk

One thing about the Garden Island is that things sure do grow here. This papaya tree, filled with ripening papayas, was about 18 months old when this photo was taken.

Mangoes on the Mango Tree

If you like mangoes, you will LOVE these mangoes!

The giant mango tree at the Kauai Beach Inn

Mangoes are not uncommon on Kauai, but this tree is well-known for its amazing fruit, which is very much in demand. Oh - and it's humongous.

Japanese White Eye Bird and Lizard on Papaya Tree

Of course, it's not only our guests who enjoy the fruit trees.

Avocado Tree at Kauai Beach Inn

You probably can't see the avocados on this tree, but there are quite a few of them.

Lime tree at Kauai Beach Inn

This lime tree may be small, but it produces a lot of limes.

The banana grove at the Kauai Beach Inn

While technically not a tree (they're actually herbs), banana plants abound at the Kauai Beach Inn.

Pineapples growing on pineapple plants

This is how pineapples grow. They're on a nearby plantation (not on our property). One pineapple grows on each plant and takes 2 years to reach maturity!

Pink hibiscus flower

The hibiscus is the state flower of Hawaii, and we have many of them growing here at the Kauai Beach Inn. Many of our guests are surprised to see them in tree form, which is their natural state.

Nearby Maha’ulepu Beach is One of Kauai’s True Hidden Treasures

Mahaulepu Beach in Kauai Hawaii

Remote Mahaulepu Beach offers sand & snorkeling away from the crowds, as well as spectacular views - Photo by Bob Kurtz

There are so many beaches and so many different types of beaches…and waterfalls…and spectacular views here on Kauai that it can be difficult to decide which ones to visit. Fortunately we can help you resolve this dilemma. And with many of Kauai’s attractions, selecting a destination is only half the challenge—after all, on an island where paved roads can only take you to a tiny percentage of what there is to see, you still need to figure out how to get there! We can help you with that too.

We specialize in helping you make the most of your time on Kauai, and that means understanding exactly what you want to get out of your visit so we can guide you accordingly. No two visits to Kauai are alike, and we want yours to be the trip of a lifetime. Nothing is as rewarding to us as hearing one of our guests say, “Wow, thank you so much for the tip! We never would have found that on our own!”

So whether you want a lot of guidance or prefer to explore the island on your own, we can help you find exactly the Kauai you came here to discover.

The Inn

The great room at the Kauai Beach Inn is the perfect spot to read or just hang out

The great room at the Kauai Beach Inn is the perfect spot to read or just hang out and make new friends.

The Kauai Beach Inn – Poipu Bed and Breakfast offers a very unique and laid-back way to experience Hawaii’s Garden Island. Our authentic historic plantation home, situated on 1/2 acre filled with tropical fruit trees and other exotic plants, is the ideal home base from which to explore the many wonders of Kauai.

We offer a variety of accommodations so you can select just the right type for your style. Pamper yourself in a romantic suite with a jetted tub, large sitting area, and soothing lanai, or enjoy the coziness of a more intimate room. Regardless of what you choose, you will have access to plenty of space to stretch out, a flat screen TV with cable and Netflix, and free WiFi throughout the property.

Many of Kauai’s best beaches, dining, and other attractions are an easy walk or short drive from our property. Our central location on Kauai’s sunny south shore means that not only do we experience the best weather on the island year-round, but our guests have easy access to the best of Kauai as well. Waimea Canyon, the NaPali Coast, Kilauea Lighthouse, National Tropical Botanical Gardens, incredible scuba diving, snorkeling, golf, surfing, biking, hiking, and much, much more are all within easy reach.

Local wild rooster eating a mango at the Kauai Beach Inn

A brief note about Kauai’s Roosters: Anyone who knows Kauai knows that wild chickens and roosters can be found on every part of the island. As you can see from this photo, they seem to love our mangoes almost as much as our guests do. And yes, they can be annoying on occasion, apparently having no sense of timing whatsoever. Fortunately, we have found that a good pair of earplugs goes a long way toward drowning out the nighttime crowing that can sometimes occur. We make these available to our guests at no charge. Noise-cancelling fans are also available at no charge upon request. It is believed that Kauai’s small or non-existent mongoose population (unlike the large populations found on the other Hawaiian Islands) is the reason for our abundance of chickens, originally introduced by Polynesian settlers over 1,000 years ago. Of course, our lack of mongoose is also the reason that Kauai is home to six species of endangered birds only found on Kauai, making Kauai a birder’s paradise. So despite the roosters’ lack of consideration, we’ll take the chickens over the mongoose.
